No Waste Party Tip That You Will LOVE!

August 31, 2017

When it's time to PARTY!  Do you think about all of the waste that comes with it?  If you are like us here at GoGreenHamptonRoads.com, we are always looking for ways to minimize our footprint especially when throwing a bash!

One of the biggest wastes during a party that often are not recycle items is plastic forks, spoons, knives, and serving utensils.  Why are we still buying one-and-done items like these?  Not only are they wasteful, they costs can add up.

Shortly after having children and throwing kiddo birthday parties I started to build up my supply of inexpensive yet durable stainless steel utensils that I use for parties.  They are not as fancy as my every day cutlery, but I cannot tell you how many times I have heard from guests that say they appreciate eating with "real" silverware!  I quickly thank them then jump on my soapbox for just a few seconds and say, "Yes, and no waste, durable, I save money, and of course easy to get clean in the dishwasher."  That usually makes people think in a polite way, and hopefully get them to do the same.

I store my party utensils in a compact container that is easily accessible in my pantry.

I also use this same container when I have a kid's party at one of the venue's around town like the Field House in Virginia Beach.  I don't mind bringing this small container and it is great when the guest are done using the silverware.  I just put the used silverware in it and unload all of it including the container in the dishwasher when I get home.  Easy-peasy!

Where do you find the good, durable, cheap, reusable, stainless steel utensils you ask?  Here are a list of retailers that have plenty:

Target - 99 cents a piece & variety sets as low as $10

Bed, Bath, & Beyond similarl pricing to Target

Khol's

If you find a locally owned retailer that carries good and cheaper stainless steel utensils please let us know with an email to info@gogreenhamptonroads.com!
